Nick Wright Floats Wild Theory About Dak Prescott, Patriots

The Dallas Cowboys appear to have the desire to give quarterback Dak Prescott a contract extension.

But, there is no guarantee that he will be under center for “America’s Team” when the 2025 season gets underway, and he could end up being a free agent after the 2024 campaign.

On Fox Sports 1’s “First Things First,” Nick Wright proposed a wild theory about Prescott — perhaps the New England Patriots could trade this year’s No. 3 draft pick and then try to lure Prescott in free agency next year.

As Wright noted, the Patriots are slated to have a boatload of cap space in 2025, and if they trade down in this year’s draft, they could address their need for a stud at either offensive tackle or wide receiver.

Prescott put up his usual impressive numbers this past season and was even a leading candidate for the MVP award for a minute, but he threw two early interceptions in Dallas’ wild-card playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Complicating matters for Dallas is the fact that they will also need to give star wideout CeeDee Lamb and pass rusher Micah Parsons, just to name two key players, extensions relatively soon.

New England is still struggling to find itself four years after Tom Brady’s departure, and it is now clear that Mac Jones, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie, simply isn’t a franchise QB.

The organization is discovering how difficult it is to rebuild after winning everything in sight, and it won’t be easy for the Patriots to return to the top any time soon.
