Heading into the first-round playoff matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, the Los Angeles Clippers were faced with the tough challenge of trying to get the best of Luka Doncic and company without superstar forward Kawhi Leonard, who missed Game 1 on Sunday afternoon.

Without arguably their best all-around player, the Clippers were able to give Jason Kidd’s squad a run for their money, as they controlled the game from start to finish, even though Doncic and Kyrie Irving had a series of runs in the second half to make it competitive.

Regardless of Irving and Doncic turning it on later in the game, Los Angeles played very well on Sunday, leading to a much-needed win to start the series without Leonard, giving them the lead right out of the gate.

After getting a win in the series opener at Crypto.com Arena, head coach Tyronn Lue spoke to the media and explained why he believes this win is significant for the Clippers moving forward, via Mark Medina.

“Any win in the playoffs is a good win,” Lue said.

If the Clippers continue to play at a high level like this without Leonard leading the way, Los Angeles has a great chance of advancing to the second round, where they’d play the winner of the first-round matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and New Orleans Pelicans.

However, containing one of the best offenses in the NBA throughout a seven-game series will be incredibly tough, especially when facing Doncic and Irving, who have been playing really well as of late and have figured out how to play with one another.
