There was a lot of speculation surrounding the Minnesota Vikings heading into the 2024 NFL Draft.

It was evident that the team needed a quarterback, but fans and analysts were unsure if the team would make a big move to get into the top five, or if they would stay put, hoping to test their luck.

The Vikings did trade up on draft night, but they only needed to move up one spot to take J.J. McCarthy, a quarterback who has been linked to the team for several years.

While there were plenty of excited Vikings fans after this pick, McCarthy’s former college coach, Jim Harbaugh, also had some kind words to say about his new landing spot.

“That’s where he had his heart set, and I’m just so happy for him. Love him like a son, and I was praying and pulling for it to work out the way he wanted it to work out,” Harbaugh said in a press conference.

Harbaugh and McCarthy won a National Championship together, and it is evident that they are close based on his comments.

He seems to believe that McCarthy will succeed at the highest level, and with Minnesota being a desired location for him, this could end up being a fantastic pairing for all parties.

McCarthy gets an opportunity to be a Week 1 starter in his rookie year, and the Vikings hopefully have their replacement for Kirk Cousins.

The Vikings needed to take a chance on a QB in this draft to best compete in the NFC North, so it will be interesting to see if their investment will pay off.
