The New England Patriots are undergoing a regime change for the first time in a long time.

The Patriots and Bill Belichick decided to part ways this offseason, which opened the door for Jerod Mayo to be promoted to head coach.

New England did not have much of a coaching search because they knew Mayo was their guy.

One coach the Patriots could have brought back on the offensive side is Bill O’Brien.

Last season, he was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator but he decided to leave New England to join the Ohio State coaching staff before leaving that post to take the head coaching job at Boston College.

According to Zack Cox, when O’Brien was asked about leaving the Patriots, he said: “I definitely had an opportunity to stay. I thought it was really important for Coach Mayo to hire his own staff.”

O’Brien has plenty of head coaching experience both in the NFL and college.

He must know what Mayo was going through in terms of hiring his first staff.

It is something that every head coach looks forward to as they hope to build a winning foundation.

O’Brien was hired by the Patriots by Belichick, so it makes sense he would leave once Belichick left.

The Patriots will be one of the most interesting teams in the league next season.

They have the third overall pick in the NFL Draft and that almost certainly needs to be used on a quarterback.

Once the Patriots can get the right quarterback in place, everything should be much easier for them.
