Kyle Shanahan Appears To Take Jab At Dallas Cowboys

As the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs, the San Francisco 49ers were always going to play the worst-seeded team left in the field for their divisional-round matchup.

That meant that, before wild-card weekend, they’d take either the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, or the Green Bay Packers this week.

But 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan quickly realized early in the Packers vs. Dallas Cowboys game Sunday night that that opponent would be Green Bay.

He told reporters Tuesday that the team started honing in on Packers game tape after watching Green Bay jump out to a huge lead during the second quarter.

“We had mixed in a little earlier in the week with a couple of teams,” Shanahan said about their opponent prep work over the weekend, “but really started focusing on [the Packers] halfway through the second quarter.”

This is objectively funny, if only because the Packers’ quick start helped the 49ers disregard other possible divisional opponents because they had a good feeling Green Bay would pull off the win.

Now, Shanahan admitted the 49ers still watched some Cowboys tape after Dallas made a small comeback, but it sounds as though the team had pretty much exclusively zeroed in on Green Bay and allowed them to not even worry about the Buccaneers-Eagles game Monday night.

The match between San Francisco and Green Bay will be intriguing if only because of how different the 49ers are from the Cowboys team the Packers just beat.

But the 49ers were the No. 1 seed for a reason and will present an even tougher test for Jordan Love and the Packers.
