Insider Says Sean McDermott’s Recent Controversy Won’t Affect Job Status
The Buffalo Bills have had a challenging season.
Despite Super Bowl aspirations, the Bills sit at 6-6 and are currently out of the AFC playoffs.
Things got even worse when a report surfaced this week that head coach Sean McDermott used a 9/11 reference to try and motivate his team during a 2019 meeting.
McDermott publicly apologized after the story came out, but there were already questions about his job security before the bizarre report.
However, the 9/11 reference reportedly won’t affect McDermott’s job status moving forward, according to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones.

The Bills signed McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane to contract extensions this past offseason, so it would take a massive change of heart for the Pegulas – who own the Bills – to move on from at least their head coach because of one bad season.
McDermott has led the Bills to an AFC East title in each of the past four seasons, but Buffalo hasn’t been able to make the Super Bowl despite their regular season successes.
There is something to be said about plateauing, though.
At some point, the Bills will need to take a hard look at themselves and decide if they want to continue with their current track or try to make a move that elevates the team.
Quarterback Josh Allen and wideout Stefon Diggs remain one of the best offensive duos in the NFL – they just haven’t been able to turn it on when it matters most.
That isn’t all on McDermott, but the heat will continue to rise on the Bills head coach if Buffalo keeps losing.
