Drew Barrymore Ushered Away After Man Rushes Stage: ‘I Need To See You’


Drew Barrymore was ushered away from a panel event in New York City on Monday after a man rushed the stage telling the actress, “I need to see you.”

In a video that surfaced on social media, the 48-year-old was talking with singer and actor Reneé Rapp during an event at a cultural center in Manhattan when the man approached, interrupting the discussion, ” NBC News reported.

Barrymore appeared calm in the clip as she discussed her career until she heard someone yelling her name, “Drew Barrymore,” and reportedly shouting his own name. It was then the talk show host’s expression changed, and she said, “Oh my God! Yes! Hi!”

“You know who I am,” the man reportedly continued yelling. “I need to see you at some point while you’re in New York, okay?”

Rapp’s body language seemed to change rapidly as the man got closer to the stage. The singer then stood up, put her arm around Barrymore, and escorted her out of the room.

In the clip, two people who look like security guards intercepted the man and escorted him out.

 

One person who witnessed the incident told the outlet, “At first I thought it was a planned guest because Drew was so warm and excited to see him.”

“But then we saw Reneé kick into protective mode,” the person added. “Then he said his name and started to get more aggressive so we all realized something was off.”

After things seemed to calm down, the “Charlie’s Angels” star returned to the stage, calling Rapp her bodyguard.

“Well, I have a new definition of your sexiness, it’s that level of protectiveness,” Barrymore said. “That went full ‘Bodyguard.’ You are my Kevin Costner.”

At the time of this publication, no police report on the incident has been filed.
