Daily Wire’s Backstage Stars Talk Taylor Swift, Shapiro’s Hit Rap, Secret Kamala Plot

During Tuesday’s “Backstage” event on DailyWire+, the show’s stars — Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing, Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro, and their fellow Daily Wire podcast hosts Candace Owens, Michael Knowles, Matt Walsh and Andrew Klavan — spoke on a variety of topics, among them Taylor Swift, Shapiro’s chart-topping rap “Facts,” and the “secret plot” to box Kamala Harris out of the Democratic nomination.

Boreing began the discussion of Swift by noting how his young daughter made him aware of the pop star’s “It” factor due to the her hit song “Shake It Off” being used in the animated movie “Sing.” From there, the hosts launched into a conversation about Swift and her wide-reaching influence — for good or ill.

Owens had a particularly strong take on Swift, calling her “the most toxic feminist that’s ever existed.”

“Obviously, if you’ve seen what she’s even done in business and how she tries to manipulate her audiences to get out of deals and contracts, she’s totally insane,” said Owens.

When Walsh noted that such a description was significant, Owens elaborated, explaining the pop star’s relationship to her fans, her battle with music executive Scooter Braun, and the woman from whom Swift said she “learned” feminism.

The hit rap song “Facts,” by Tom MacDonald and featuring Ben Shapiro, also came up during the wide-ranging event, as Billboard recently revealed that it had become the number one purchased rap single.

Boreing began by noting the song’s massive popularity, and asked Shapiro if he actually penned the lyrics to the section of the song he rapped. Shapiro explained the role he played in writing the rap, and noted that the original version had even more deep cuts about economics.

Klavan took a moment during the show to offer some advice to men in our culture — at the prompting of Boreing — saying that one must begin with oneself.

“Who am I? What do I want? What am I doing here? Where am I going?” a man must ask himself, said the bestselling author. “A guy who doesn’t understand that about himself isn’t going anywhere.”

The host went on to say that this generation is in a moment of massive change, and it’s the moment when men must live speaking out the truth, or “we’re done for.”

When the issue of marriage came up, Walsh spoke about the problem of divorce, and how the alleged rate of marriages that end in failure is misleading.

If “basic things” are done to help fortify the marriage, he argued, such as spending time together, being religious, practicing honesty with one another, one’s chances of divorce are significantly smaller.

While the hosts largely kept their discussions about broader cultural and political topics, they all took a moment to react to news that broke during the broadcast that DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas had been impeached by the House of Representatives.

Knowles presented the case for impeaching Mayorkas by describing him as being “criminally negligent” in his handling of immigration laws, while Boreing asserted, “Well, they should impeach Joe Biden for the exact same thing then, because he’s Mayorkas’ boss.”

Prompted by Boreing, Shapiro addressed questions about his past assertions that he “does not give a damn about the browning of America.”

Shapiro said in response that he does not “care about the race” of immigrants, rather he cares about the ideology of those who are migrating to the United States — a sentiment that flies in the face of how the Left portrays the Right as as supposedly troubled by changing racial demographics. The Left, Shapiro said, also cares more about ideology despite their pandering to the racial grievance crowd.

Walsh also spoke about immigration and sovereignty, noting that we have to “have a much greater sense of our own history” in order to defend ourselves from the Left’s accusations of colonialism.

“Europeans taking over the continent is one of the great things that’s happened in human history,” Shapiro responded. “Without America, this globe is doomed to be a hellscape.”

As President Joe Biden’s health continues to make news, in response to a viewer question, the hosts discussed the Left’s plans regarding Vice President Kamala Harris.

Boreing speculated that the Left has a plan in place to get rid of Harris by paying her off, noting that simply replacing her with someone like California Governor Gavin Newsom would upend their hold on the Democratic base.

“Right now there is a move afoot to have her step down as vice president and to pay her a five year, $100 million deal to run a foundation for the next five years. So she should make $20 million a year,” said Boreing. “That’s because they know that there is the possibility that Joe Biden won’t be able to run for president … And they know how deeply unpopular she is.”
