Unsung important recruiter; Buckeyes’ strong presence in Georgia; and much more…

Good evening Bucknuts members and visitors! There is plenty going on with Ohio State football recruiting so let’s get started! I will of course have plenty more throughout the night and tomorrow.

1) The Buckeyes are hitting the prep football talent rich state of Georgia very hard. They already have five top Georgia prospects scheduled to make an official visit to Ohio State on a single weekend, the huge June 24-26 weekend.

Ohio State cornerbacks coach Tim Walton is from Columbus, Ga. and has been recruiting the state hard, at times working with safeties coach Perry Eliano. Other Ohio State assistant coaches who are recruiting Georgia prospects at the position they coach have been recruiting the Peach State too.

But another name to be aware of who is doing excellent work for the Buckeyes when it comes to recruiting the state of Georgia is Miguel Patrick. In early March Patrick joined the Ohio State staff as a defensive quality control coach. Patrick was an assistant coach at Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove for a number of years before becoming the head coach in 2019. He led Cedar Grove to a state championship in his first season. In two seasons as head coach at Cedar Grove he compiled a 17-7 record and two playoff appearances. Patrick then moved on to the head coach position at Cordele (Ga.) Crisp County in 2021 and led them to a 9-4 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals.

Patrick then headed north to Ohio State and as I talk to recruits in Georgia his name comes up often. He is a big part of the Buckeyes’ recruiting efforts in the Peach State.
