Matt Chapman Comments On Slow MLB Market

The MLB free-agent market continues to not make much sense.

Many fans are sitting around wondering why some very good players are still without a team.

There seems to be no exact reason for this other than teams are unwilling to spend.

Also, some teams may be waiting to see how things shake out in spring training before they target one of these free agents.

The most notable free agent who just signed was third baseman Matt Chapman.

He agreed to a deal with the San Francisco Giants.

The deal is for three years and $54 million.

According to Jesse Rogers, Chapman had an interesting take on the free-agent market.

Chapman said: “Definitely a strange market this year, and the free agent process was a little abnormal.”

Chapman found his home in San Francisco with a team that hopes to remain competitive in 2024.

The NL West looks to be one of the tougher divisions in baseball.

Led by the Los Angeles Dodgers and reigning NL Champion Arizona Diamondbacks, the Giants will have their hands full.

But Chapman should be in for a productive season now that he has found his new home.

Last season in Toronto, he hit .240 with 17 home runs and 54 RBI.

But, what separates him from other players is his defense.

Chapman is a four-time Gold Glove winner and has been lauded by many as the best defensive third baseman in the sport.

San Francisco was one of the worst defensive teams in baseball last season.

They were last in MLB in errors per game with 0.72.

Also, they led the MLB in total errors with 117, and the next highest mark was 102.

Chapman should help fix some of the defensive woes for the Giants, along with providing a power bat in the lineup.
