The Cleveland Browns underwent a few coaching changes after being ousted from the playoffs by the Houston Texans and fired its offensive coordinator and running backs coach.

The Browns finished with a middling scoring offense and the 12th-best running game despite making the postseason.

So, with an offseason ahead of them, the Browns have begun their search for some offensive assistant coaches.

Cleveland started with Duce Staley, who most recently coached running backs for the Carolina Panthers before a midseason firing alongside head coach Frank Reich, according to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson.

Staley was also the assistant head coach in Carolina.

It’s unclear if Staley is up for the offensive coordinator or running backs coach job in Cleveland, but he had a proven track record at his previous stops.

The Eagles had one of the best running games under his direction and then-Lions running back Jamaal Williams rushed for an NFL-best 17 touchdowns in 2022.

The Browns appear interested in revitalizing their offense after the team looked bad at times with Deshaun Watson under center before his season-ending shoulder injury.

Joe Flacco came in and looked good before he led Cleveland to the playoffs, but he likely won’t be back with the team as the Browns turn to Watson in 2024.

Running back Nick Chubb should return this next season as well after he suffered a serious knee injury in Week 2 that ended his season.

Staley is just the first interview for a Browns team that could continue to look at options throughout the offseason.
