Marvel Drops Jonathan Majors After Conviction
Marvel Studios cut ties with Jonathan Majors shortly after a New York jury found the actor guilty of reckless assault and harassment of his ex-girlfriend on Monday.
A spokesperson for the studio confirmed the firing to Deadline and other news outlets, but did not provide any further comment.
Majors, who is now 34, graduated from the Yale School of Drama and established himself as a rising Hollywood star in recent years with roles in HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” and “Creed III,” part of the spinoff franchise that came out of the “Rocky” series.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is under the Disney banner, Majors played various iterations of Kang the Conqueror in the Disney-Plus show “Loki” and the movie “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” The powerful character was being established as the next main villain of the Marvel series, with an upcoming movie — “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” — set for release in 2026.
It was not immediately clear how Marvel would proceed with its plans for the future with Majors out of the picture, but Variety reported in early November that executives discussed the prospect of introducing a backup plan that could pivot to a supervillain such as Dr. Doom as the leading antagonist.
What was once a promising acting career hit a snag beginning in late March when Majors was arrested and charged in connection to a domestic dispute involving his former girlfriend Grace Jabbari in Manhattan. His public relations firm and talent management company parted ways with Majors in the weeks that followed along with doubts about his projects moving forward.
Majors pleaded not guilty to the charges he faced and the case went to trial this month. The trial culminated in the guilty verdict Monday on two misdemeanor counts. The jury acquitted Majors of a different assault charge and aggravated assault — counts which The New York Times noted had required prosecutors to show he acted with intent.

Sentencing is scheduled for February 6. Multiple reports indicated that Majors faces up to about a year in prison. His lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, issued a statement declaring that Majors “still has faith in the process and looks forward to fully clearing his name.”
