The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs may currently be sporting a record 6-2 while cruising in first place in the AFC West, but this 2023 NFL season has been anything but pretty for Patrick Mahomes and company.

One of the team’s biggest weaknesses during the 2023 campaign has been at the wide receiver position, as Mahomes has struggled to find a go-to guy in the passing game outside of superstar tight end Travis Kelce.

With wide receiver being a major concern moving forward, even with the recent return of Mecole Hardman, Kansas City was thought to be a team that might try to get a receiver before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday.

Following a nine-point performance in the loss to the division-rival Denver Broncos, the Chiefs were expected to be highly motivated to make a move, but they chose to stand pat, and James Palmer of NFL Network explains why the team chose to make that decision.

As Palmer points out, the Chiefs brass believes the team has just been “sloppy” over the last few weeks and still think they can turn things around and be the contender everyone expects them to be this season.

That could come back to haunt them, however, as Kansas City has not looked like the offensive juggernaut of old and currently looks as beatable as they’ve ever been in the Mahomes era.

Only time will tell if the Chiefs can flip the switch at the right time, but as of right now, there’s no help coming at the wide receiver position.
