This season’s trade deadline isn’t until Tuesday afternoon, but on Monday, the Seattle Seahawks decided to make headlines by reportedly completing a deal with the New York Giants to acquire Pro Bowl defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

Williams should be a great addition for the Seahawks, who are currently in first place in the NFC West after their win and a San Francisco 49ers loss on Sunday.

In order to acquire the veteran defensive lineman, Seattle reportedly sent the Giants a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and a fifth-round selection in the 2025 draft (via NFL on Twitter).

With a very minimal chance of making the playoffs at this point in the season with a 2-6 record, it appears that the Giants have decided to begin acquiring assets for the future instead of making an attempt to somehow turn things around during the next few weeks.

Williams is in the middle of his ninth NFL season, and he’ll now be a member of Seattle’s roster after spending his entire career on the East Coast as a member of the Giants and New York Jets.

In eight games this season, Williams has accumulated 21 tackles (one for a loss), eight pressures, five QB hits, and 1.5 sacks.

Heading into Week 9, his performance resulted in him earning the 37th-best defensive grade from PFF among qualifying interior defenders.

So after dealing with plenty of frustrations on a struggling Giants team during the first part of the 2023 season, Williams now gets to help a Seattle team that could potentially contend for a spot in the Super Bowl.
