Several football fans and experts wrote off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following Tom Brady’s retirement.

They can’t see how the Super Bowl LV champions will continue to compete without the legendary quarterback.

Even those who supported the team weren’t necessarily thrilled in having Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask as their quarterback depth chart.

But somehow, the Buccaneers have defied the odds with a 3-1 record after the first quarter of the 2023 NFL season.

Meanwhile, Mayfield has been an essential part of their early success, not a liability.

What’s the secret to their winning ways?

How about taking some of your teammates on an island getaway.

Mayfield’s statement to Dan Patrick is a reference to what he did for his teammates.

Yes, he did take them to the Bahamas to build their chemistry.

Buccaneers GM Jason Licht testified to Mayfield’s act when he said to Peter Schrager, via Dov Kleiman: “Baker took the OL to the Bahamas during camp after final cuts to golf. He’s spotted around town at dive bars with receivers, with Mike Evans, with Godwin. He’s that guy. He’s the man. And it’s not fake.”

The vacation worked as the Buccaneers have defeated the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints.

However, a tough stretch of Tampa Bay’s season looms as they face the Detroit Lions this week.

They will also go on the road to face the Buffalo Bills in a Week 7 Thursday Night Football game.

Those tough matches are what the Bahamas trips are truly for.
