Buck Showalter Shared Shocking Fact Upon Being Let Go
The New York Mets announced that manager Buck Showalter is not going to continue leading the club in 2024.
The Mets won 101 games with him at the helm in 2022, but things went south this year and the club finished 74-87.
With David Stearns recently announced as the president of baseball operations, he already started making decisions, and according to Mets insider Tim Healey, firing Showalter was one of them,
“Buck Showalter said he has never spoken to David Stearns. It was Stearns’ decision to fire Showalter, Steve Cohen said a few minutes ago,” he tweeted.

It’s certainly odd that Showalter didn’t hear anything from Stearns himself, especially given his long career and status as a respected veteran manager.
It’s likely that his philosophy doesn’t fit in with what Stearns will try to preach in New York.
You could say that Stearns believes in stability: upon being hired as the Brewers’ general manager in September 2015, he endorsed Craig Counsell as the manager and he still has the job to this day.
And the Brewers are in a healthy state, having won the NL Central title and ready to start their journey in the postseason again.
Once Stearns finds his guy, he will likely get a long leash.
It was clear, however, that Showalter wasn’t Stearns’ guy.
Counsell is young, with a playing background but a near-expert level understanding of analytics and even some front office experience.
You can expect the new Mets manager to have a similar profile.
Who will manage the Mets as they look to return to the playoffs in 2024?
It’s certainly one of the most interesting storylines of the offseason for the team.
