The Detroit Lions made a big statement on Thursday night.

They took Lambeau Field by storm, with the fans packing the place, and the players dominating the gridiron.

They jumped to a 27-3 lead at halftime and there was a moment in the game when Jordan Love had completed as many passes to Lions defenders as he had to his own receivers.

Following the loss, the Packers’ young QB had no choice but to give the Lions their flowers, acknowledging they’re a great team and calling them the team to beat in the division now (via ProFootballTalk).

“Credit to them, they played really good,” Love said. “Yeah, I think it was us and them going into this game. Obviously we haven’t played the Vikings yet, but every time we play a North opponent it’s a huge game, going forward to the end of the year. it’s a game that we’ll be looking forward to next time we play them. We’ve got to be better and go win.”

This isn’t exactly a surprise, considering that most analysts and even oddsmakers had the Lions as the biggest threat to get the divisional pennant this season, while the Packers were more of a question mark with mixed takes and reviews.

The Lions had already spoiled the Packers’ playoff hopes in last year’s regular-season finale, putting a bitter end to Aaron Rodgers’ tenure in charge of the offense.

Some thought HC Matt LaFleur and his team would be more than ready to get payback from that heartbreaking loss, but that wasn’t the case at all.

The Lions currently sit on a 3-1 record and atop of the division, with the Packers still on their tails at 2-2.

The Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings are both 0-3 and unlikely to get much better at any point in the season, so Thursday night’s game might be the only difference in the race for this divisional title at the end of the campaign.
