N.C. State Handed Out Condoms To Incoming Students. Then Parents Protested.

North Carolina State University offered incoming students a packet containing condoms, lubricant, and a paper urging them to keep a record of how many “orgasms” they experienced.

After various parents complained, the university stopped distributing the packets.

One commenter wrote on Facebook, “No advice, a question. A friend was moving in their child this week. Why was NCSU handing out these ‘sex kits’?”

“In partnership with CVS, NC State distributes these packs to each incoming student class to provide them with healthy snacks, home care products, and self-care aids as they acclimate to campus,” the university responded. “University Housing has been made aware of a questionable flyer from a condom manufacturer included in the packs and has stopped distribution of the packs. Our team has also alerted CVS of the issue.”

“So you are saying work sheets encouraging 3somes and sex producers are home care?!?!” the commenter fired back.

“The condom flyer, which warns students about STIs using a game called S.M.A.S.H.,” Campus Reform noted, adding, “The game involves eliminating items from a list and “the last one left in each category will help give you a glimpse into what your next sexscapade will entail. Some of the categories shown are ‘relationship type,’ with options for ‘one-night stand’ and ‘situationship,’ as well as ‘# of orgasms.’”

At Boston College, a Catholic school, Boston College Students for Sexual Health not associated with the school and gets funds via a grant from Planned Parenthood, hands out “condomgrams” every Valentine’s Day. In 2018, 94% of the students voted to support permitting BCSSH to hand out contraceptives on campus.

“All students have a responsibility to respect the values and traditions of Boston College as a Jesuit, Catholic institution, including adhering to the Church’s teachings with respect to sexual activity,” Boston College’s policy states. “Consequently, incidents of sexual intercourse outside the bonds of matrimony may be referred to the Student Conduct System.”
