The AFC East may be the toughest division in the NFL right now, but the NFC East isn’t that far behind.

The division is headlined by the defending conference champion Philadelphia Eagles, and right behind them are the Dallas Cowboys, who look significantly improved, at least on paper.

Then there are the New York Giants, who surprised many by making the playoffs last season, and the Washington Commanders, who believe they will be competitive this year.

Analyst Steve Palazzolo of PFF says that the Eagles and Cowboys will battle hard for the top record in the division and that the Cowboys improved more than the Eagles did during the offseason.

Palazzolo praised Dallas’ acquisitions of wide receiver Brandin Cooks and cornerback Stephon Gilmore, which will give the team more firepower on both sides of the football.

In each of the last two seasons, Dallas won 12 regular season games, only to be sent home early in the playoffs both years by the San Francisco 49ers, their historic arch-rivals.

Cowboys fans have been growing restless, as their team hasn’t won the Super Bowl or even gotten to the NFC Championship Game since the 1995 season.

It is a very long drought for a once-storied franchise that has unapologetically embraced its nickname of “America’s Team.”

The franchise will be counting on quarterback Dak Prescott to raise his game under pressure and deliver some big performances come playoff time, something he has never really done.

Philly is still the favorite to win the NFC, but the Cowboys will likely have something to say about that over the next four to five months.
