Ted Cruz Makes Prediction On 2024 Republican Presidential Primary Race

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) weighed in on the state of the 2024 Republican presidential primary, saying that he believes the race is going to come down to two candidates.

Cruz, who is running for re-election in the U.S. Senate next year, made the remarks during a brief interview with ABC News late this week.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen in the presidential race,” Cruz said. “There is a vigorous primary on the Republican side. I am staying out of it.”

“I am good friends with Donald Trump. I’m good friends with Ron DeSantis,” he continued. “I think it is basically a two-man race. Whoever wins the nomination I expect to support enthusiastically.”

Former President Donald Trump remains the frontrunner in the race with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis remaining the clear second-place candidate with 15-18% in most national polls. The remaining candidates are polling in the single digits.

The most notable movement in the polls has been former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley gaining momentum and overtaking pharmaceutical executive Vivek Ramaswamy in a recent poll from The Wall Street Journal, which had Haley at 8%, Ramaswamy at 5%, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie starting to creep up at 3%.

The RealClearPolitics average also shows Haley about to overtake Ramaswamy for third place as the two are now separated by only 1-point.

DeSantis has been off the campaign trail for a week as he leads Florida’s response to Hurricane Idalia. He is expected to take at least several more days before returning to the campaign trail.
