It wasn’t all that long ago that the biggest problem for the San Francisco 49ers ahead of the 2023 NFL season was the quarterback position and what to do with the three notable players at that spot.

The start of the 2023 campaign is less than a week away, with the 49ers facing an issue concerning the contract talks with reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa.

Over the last few weeks, the 49ers and Bosa’s representation have been going back and forth in contract talks, trying to get a deal done before the start of the upcoming season, but they’ve failed to see eye-to-eye on a new deal.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Bosa and the 49ers appear to be far apart on what he wants to get paid on an annual basis, via 49ers on NBCS.

Unlike other players around the league struggling to get a contract done, Bosa is a generational talent that doesn’t come around that often, meaning the 49ers will not want to screw this up and let a defensive player of his caliber slip out of their hands.

Along with addressing these contract talks on a daily basis, head coach Kyle Shanahan recently said they would not consider trading Bosa if this dilemma continues, which is the right answer as he’s irreplaceable.

Now the pressure is on for the 49ers brass to get this deal done, as starting the season without Bosa would be a costly blow for a team that has Super Bowl aspirations in 2023.
