As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to defend their second Super Bowl championship in the previous four seasons, they have some significant concerns.

At the top of the list is the fact that star defensive lineman Chris Jones is holding out while looking for a lucrative contract extension.

Star tight end Travis Kelce, while on his podcast, pleaded with Jones to end his holdout and remain with the team, but he also added that he doesn’t get his situation.

Head coach Andy Reid said that he’s focused on getting a win in Week 1 versus the Detroit Lions regardless of who will suit up for him, via the team on YouTube.

Over the last several years, Jones has become a bona fide difference maker, and he has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last four seasons while also being named to the All-Pro First-Team last year.

In 2022, he recorded 15.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, and 29 quarterback hits.

If Jones were to miss some regular season games, it could prove to be costly for Kansas City, especially in a very competitive AFC.

After playing the Lions in Week 1, they will face a talented, upstart Jacksonville Jaguars team on the road the following week, and two weeks later, they will head north to take on Aaron Rodgers and the new-look New York Jets.

Around midseason, they will play the Denver Broncos twice and the Los Angeles Chargers once before hosting the Philadelphia Eagles in a Super Bowl rematch on Monday Night Football.

The Chiefs cannot afford to lose any games they’re supposed to win, especially after losing wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. this offseason.
