The Minnesota Vikings began the offseason with a surprising move, cutting Dalvin Cook.

This left an immediate gap at the running back position, leaving Alexander Mattison as the team’s RB1.

While Vikings fans were left curious about what the team’s backup situation would look like, Adam Schefter’s latest report might be an indication.

Per Schefter, the Vikings have signed Myles Gaskin, formerly of the Miami Dolphins.

Gaskin is a four-year NFL veteran, spending his entire career with the Dolphins.

He only appeared in four games during the 2022 season.

However, if his 2021 campaign is any indication, it could be a sign of great things to come for the Vikings.

In 17 games, Gaskin put up 612 yards, scoring three touchdowns.

He also totaled 49 receptions, which he turned into 234 yards and four additional touchdowns.

His pass-catching prowess could come in handy for the Vikings in the aftermath of Cook’s absence.

Kirk Cousins could utilize him as a pass-catching back, helping him out with screen passes and wheel routes.

The Vikings are a polarizing team heading into 2023, as many analysts are torn on them.

Some believe they are a shoo-in for the NFC North title, while others think they will be a bottom-feeder.

Gaskin should provide depth for the Vikings at a position with major question marks across the league.

Teams have devalued backs, not signing them to extended contracts.

This was evidenced by Cook’s release, and while Gaskin’s contract hasn’t been revealed, it’s safe to assume it will be for a minuscule amount.
