Fans React To Today’s Saquon Barkley Contract News
The New York Giants are coming off one of their best seasons in recent memory, with the team coming together under new head coach Brian Daboll.
With the storied franchise clicking on all cylinders with Daboll calling the shots, the future looks bright in New York, as they could take advantage of a relatively weak NFC over the next few years.
However, one of their key pieces to the puzzle is unhappy with his current situation, as star running back Saquon Barkley and the Giants were unable to come to terms on a new contract ahead of Monday’s deadline.
The Giants franchise tagged Barkley earlier in the offseason, meaning he’d have to play for just over $10 million next season.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Barkley was looking to get paid what he’s worth while securing his long-term future with the team, but that didn’t happen.
No deal for the #Giants and star RB Saquon Barkley, with talks going down to the wire and the best efforts made to strike a compromise, per me, @TomPelissero, and @MikeGarafolo. He’ll play on the tag, but the question is when. pic.twitter.com/DxbEHiRlKL

Here are some fan reactions to the Giants not agreeing to a new deal with Barkley ahead of Monday’s deadline:
If Barkley wants to win a ring he should come to the Vikings, because they run the league ?

No deal getting done between Barkley and the Giants seems to have come with mixed reviews from the fans, as some appear to feel for the young running back while others accuse him of being greedy and not a team-first player.
With players at the running back position taking a pounding year after year, it’s no surprise that elite players like Jacobs and Barkley would want to get paid and have their futures secured.
Unfortunately, NFL teams are trending toward making the running back position a type of mercenary, as it may become a revolving door in the years to come with no long-term deals getting done.
