Mina Kimes Shares A Positive Review Of Sam Howell

Although the Washington Commanders came very close to earning a playoff spot last season, not too many people think highly of their chances to reach the postseason in 2023.

They will have a new starting quarterback in Sam Howell, who has been a QB1 in the NFL for a grand total of one game — the final game of last season.

But ESPN analyst Mina Kimes seems to think he can develop into a solid solution for the Commanders moving forward.

Kimes pointed out the fact that Washington likes to run the football and that Howell can run himself, to the point where he almost reminds her of a young Russell Wilson.

Howell also can accurately hit receivers on long passes downfield, and according to Kimes, Washington’s threat in the run game should result in their wideouts facing single coverage, which would make it easier for Howell to find them.

The former UNC star also has a quick release, which will make it difficult for defenses to react to him in time.

Howell ran for 828 yards and 11 touchdowns in his final season with the Tar Heels, and that ability will come in handy for a Commanders team that was 29th in rushing touchdowns last year.

They may not have a talented cast on offense, but they do have wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who doesn’t get lots of publicity but is steady and dependable.

He has put up at least 1,050 receiving yards in each of the last three seasons, and it will be up to Howell to maximize his skills.
