Cody Bellinger Discusses The Uncertainty Of The Trade Deadline
The 2023 season has been somewhat of a redemption tour for Chicago Cubs slugger Cody Bellinger.
After being let go by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Bellinger joined the North Siders on a one-year, $17.5 million contract.
The former MVP and Rookie of the Year is hitting .298 with eight home runs and 28 RBI.
He also is slugging .486, reaching base at a .352 clip, and owns an OPS of .838 this season.
However, with the Cubs six games below the .500 mark, it’s always possible that Bellinger could be a trade piece at the deadline.
Bellinger was asked about the possibility of a trade and expressed his thoughts on the matter, via Jesse Rogers.
Cody Bellinger on the trade deadline: “I definitely know what is possible but I like being here and focusing on helping this team win while I am here and hopefully we can get on a roll and stay together. We have a really good group here.” https://t.co/MjqkbS9wxF

The veteran slugger and outfielder says he knows it’s possible that he could be traded by the August 1 deadline.
However, he expressed his hope to stay in Chicago and his current desire to help the team win while he’s still on the roster.
Bellinger said he hopes that the Cubs can get on a roll here soon and get themselves back into the race, saying that he believes the group they have is a special one.
Since getting hot at the end of June, the North Siders have slipped in the standings, falling to 40-46 and sitting eight games back of first place in the NL Central.
They are also seven games behind the defending National League champion Philadelphia Phillies for the third and final Wild Card spot.
The Cubs may end up being sellers, in which case Bellinger could be on the move.
But the slugger is hoping to stay in Chicago for the rest of the year.
