Cardinals Announcers Left In Shock Over Latest Meltdown

The St. Louis Cardinals have had a nightmare of a season to this point.

They are 35-51, 12.5 games behind the Cincinnati Reds for the NL Central lead and occupying last place.

What happened on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins is the exact representation of what their season has been like.

They came to the ninth inning up 9-8 on the scoreboard, and Jordan Hicks was called upon to get the save and secure the win.

With one out and men at first and second, Hicks induced a slow chopper that he fielded himself.

Had he gotten the throw to first properly and in time, he would have gotten the second out of the inning and there would be men at second and third.

But the Cardinals would still be up by one run with a chance to end things when the next batter came up.

Unfortunately for Hicks, his throw was way too high for the first baseman to catch and it went to the right field area, allowing both runs to score and the Marlins to walk-off with a 10-9 win.

As Chip Caray of Bally Sports Midwest, it was the “dagger” for the Cards this year.

“This might be the worst way possible to lose”, he said, and he is very much right.

Only true Cardinals fans who witnessed the play know what it felt like to go from potentially winning a close game to literally throwing it away.

Sadly, such has been their season.

Their chances of making a comeback in the standings are looking more improbable by the day.
