The Packers Are Finally Focused On Drafting Playmakers

Last season, the Green Bay Packers had a lack of strong playmakers at the wide receiver and tight end positions, and it caused them to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

It may have had something to do with the dip in the production of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who of course is now a member of the New York Jets.

Now that Jordan Love will finally get his chance under center after waiting for three seasons, the Packers will need to surround him with men who he can trust to catch passes and gain yardage.

To that end, they drafted tight end Luke Musgrave and wide receiver Jayden Reed in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Musgrave was taken with one of the picks Green Bay received from New York in the Rodgers deal.

Offensively, he didn’t have a very productive college career at Oregon State University, but he did post 304 yards and one touchdown during the 2021 season.

He is thought to be one of the top tight end prospects in this year’s draft, although he may fall a little short of Michael Mayer and Dalton Kincaid.

Reed, who played three of his four years of college ball for Michigan State University, had 636 yards and five touchdowns last season and 1,026 yards and 10 touchdowns the year prior.

After trading star wideout Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders last offseason, Green Bay’s offense sputtered for much of the 2022 campaign, although it did show some promise late in the season.

Now, it will be up to a new cast to live up to the franchise’s storied past.
