‘He Died In My Arms’: Russell Crowe Shares Heartbreaking News About His New Puppy

Superstar Russell Crowe shared heartbreaking news about the death of his 16-month-old puppy, Louis, who did not survive after being hit by a truck.

The 58-year-old actor broke the tragic news on Thursday with his millions of followers on Twitter that the newest addition to his family was gone.

“This is Louis the Papillion. 16-months-old,” Crowe wrote alongside a close-up photo of his dog.

“Tiny, cheeky, brave,” he added. “He won my heart. Unfortunately today, on the second anniversary of my father’s passing, Louis was hit by a truck.”

“We tried to get him to the vet, but he died in my arms while I was telling him how much we loved him,” the actor concluded his sad post.

Reading through the comments, many of the “Gladiator” star’s famous friends reacted to the news and wrote how very sorry they were for the pain he was going through.

Actor Vincent D’Onofrio wrote, “So sorry to hear this Russell. My heart goes out to you.”

Writer, Director Jay Arnold wrote, “Omg I’m so sorry.”

While actress Marg Helgenberger tweeted to the actor, “I’m so sorry for your loss.”

“So sorry mate. Sending love,” singer Ben Lee added, the Daily Mail noted.

As the “A Beautiful Mind” star shared, his father, 85-year-old John Alexander Crowe, died two years ago on the exact same day he lost Louis.

At the time, he announced the news of his dad’s death in a series of posts on social media.

“I arrived back in the bush last night,” Crowe wrote. “Today, although the sun is shining and the torrential rain has abated, this date will forever be tinged with sadness.”

“My dear old man, my beautiful dad, the most gentle of men, has passed away,”  he added. “Passed away in Coffs Harbour, NSW, his home for the last 25 years. Rest In Peace.”

Prior to the Hollywood star’s father’s death, he had been isolating with his parents in New South Wales at their family estate during the pandemic.

One post on Instagram he made at the time, showed his father smiling while wearing a baseball cap, the outlet noted.

He captioned it, “Isolating with the old man. 84 now. Wearing a hat I got at Princeton while shooting A Beautiful Mind.”
