‘McCarthy And His Gang Of Flying Monkeys’: Jake Tapper Mocks House Republicans Fighting

CNN’s Jake Tapper mocked House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Republicans in the House over McCarthy’s resistance to the mammoth $1.7 trillion spending bill pushed by the Democratic Party.

The Democrats had failed to pass twelve appropriations bills in September, ultimately rolling all of them into one omnibus bill over 4,000 pages long. Control of the House will pass to Republicans on January 3, so the Democrats are frantically trying to get the bill passed before then. McCarthy has threatened that if the bill is passed, he will veto future legislation by anyone who supports the spending package.

During a CNN panel discussion, Tapper pointed to a quote from North Dakota GOP Senator Kevin Cramer. “Statements like that and statements coming from House Republicans is the very reason that some Senate Republicans feel they probably should spare them from the burden of having to govern,” Cramer had said.

Then Tapper mocked McCarthy, likening him to the Wicked Witch of the West in “The Wizard of Oz” and his supporters. “The reason that Senate Republicans are coming into this deal with the devil, in their view, is because they look at Kevin McCarthy and his gang of flying monkeys,” Tapper claimed.

Tapper, referring to Cramer’s quote, said, “I mean, I just love that quote.”

He then quoted Utah GOP Senator Mitt Romney ripping McCarthy: “We’re enduring the silly season of a campaign. For most of us, that’s over after you get elected. But he’s running for speaker of the House, so the silliness is still evident.”

“That’s like cussing for Mitt Romney,” Tapper claimed.

Tapper concluded the panel by stating that all McCarthy cared about was becoming House speaker, saying, “He is only thinking in terms of getting 218 votes. That’s it. That’s the only thing he’s looking at right now.”

According to the Heritage Foundation, the omnibus bill includes leftist causes like a $3.6 million Michelle Obama Trail in Georgia, $1.2 million for “LGBTQIA+ Pride Centers,” $1.2 million for “services for DACA recipients” at San Diego Community College, $477,000 for the Equity Institute in Rhode Island, $3 million for the American LGBTQ+ Museum in New York City, $2 million for the “Great Blacks in Wax” museum in Baltimore, and $856,000 for the “LGBT Center” in New York.
