BREAKING: Twitter Users Vote To Remove Elon Musk As The Head Of The Company

Twitter strongly voted for Twitter CEO Elon Musk to step down as the head of the company in a poll that he posted to his account late Sunday afternoon.

Musk posted the poll after a botched policy rollout earlier in the day, which prohibited users from promoting rival social media platforms, led to backlash on Twitter.

“Should I step down as head of Twitter?” Musk tweeted. “I will abide by the results of this poll.”

The poll concluded with more than 17,502,391 accounts voting. The results were 57.5% to remove Musk, and 42.5% voting for him to remain in control.

The poll came after the company announced earlier in the day that it would temporarily suspend anyone who promoted their social media accounts on other platforms.

“We recognize that many of our users are active on other social media platforms. However, we will no longer allow free promotion of certain social media platforms on Twitter,” the company said in a statement. “Specifically, we will remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other social platforms and content that contains links or usernames for the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.”

The backlash turned to confusion after Musk tweeted that he was reversing course.

The company later deleted its tweets on the new policy and deleted its blogpost page on the policy.

After the botched policy rollout during the World Cup, Musk tweeted, “Going forward, there will be a vote for major policy changes. My apologies. Won’t happen again.”

“The question is not finding a CEO, the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive,” Musk added. “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it.”

“No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive,” Musk later added. “There is no successor.”
