1) ? Guardians Game Called On Account Of Covid

Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona, 63, is out indefinitely after testing positive for Covid-19. His diagnosis, along with the positive tests of several team coaches and personnel, forced the Guardians and Chicago White Sox to postpone their Wednesday game.

  • Francona has had several health issues in recent years but reportedly is doing well; others in the “traveling party” were symptomatic, reports ESPN.
  • The Guardians and White Sox are the first teams to call off a game this season due to Covid-19.
  • The Guardians next game is Friday at the Minnesota Twins.
  • ESPN reports that Sandy Alomar Jr. could fill in as manager. If he’s not available, writes Paul Hoynes on cleveland.com, then a minor league coach could be called up to manage the team for a while.

2) Suing To Get The Cannabis Vote: The Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol — the name says everything — filed a lawsuit against several state officials to compel the state to put a cannabis legalization question on this November’s ballot. Here are five key facts about the cannabis legal action:

  • The proposed law would allow anyone 21 and older to grow, buy and possess marijuana.
  • The law would impose a 10 percent tax on all sales.
  • Republican lawmakers want to delay any action on legalization until 2023.
  • A Franklin County judge could issue a ruling in June.
  • Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, House Speaker Bob Cupp and Senate President Matt Huffman are defendants.

3) Cleveland In Chaos? The City Council and the Cuyahoga County prosecutor tag-teamed a hearing on juvenile crime, and their foe appeared to be the city police force. Prosecutor Michael O’Malley brought a Fox 8 I-Team report “showing the chaos in the streets,” according to Fox 8 News. O’Malley described a spike in carjackings and violence carried out by teens. He challenged police to do better.

  • What the prosecutor thinks: “It’s giving the impression to me, and I’m just speaking from the heart, that this city is becoming lawless and it doesn’t happen anywhere else, but this goes back to the question: how much of this are we going to accept?”
  • The police chief said his force is at least 250 officers short of a full staff.

4) ❤️ Huff-N-Puffer Heart Attack: Benny Sebastian plays in The Huff-N-Puffers softball league for men 60 and older at James Day Park in Parma. He’s 72. On Monday, he was huffing and puffing in the on-deck circle, suffered a heart attack, lost his pulse and heartbeat, and was almost called out for good. His friends and teammates saved his life with CPR.

Tim Couch on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show

5) A View From The Couch: The Cleveland Browns first-round draft pick in 1999 had a few things to say about the Browns first-round draft pick in 2018 on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show.

  • Tim Couch, who knows a little something about playing battered and hurt, said Baker Mayfield should have been given one more season to prove himself and recapture the touch he had in 2020. He’s better than an average quarterback.
  • Couch said there’s absolutely no reason to believe the Browns “sabotaged” Mayfield in the final game of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • Apparently, Couch is also quite buff now.
