Letter: Nearly ‘woke’ after reading local letters

Once I was blind, but now I see. That is after reading energy and history expert Bill Burg’s letter in The Lima News on April 6, “No president can control the price of oil,” written to dispute Mark Figley’s comments on energy and history.

Somehow I recall gasoline prices below $2 per gallon, borders under control, low inflation and the U.S.A. being respected by all. Oh, now I remember, presidents Reagan and Trump were in office then.

I now understand that the current high price of gasoline can be blamed on greedy oil companies and Putin and not on the current occupant of the White House. It’s the same occupant who came down on oil his first day in office, the same person who rejoined the Paris Climate Accords, who restored our contribution to the United Nations to $11 billion while Russia pays $232 million and China $336 million. Thank you, Richard Smith.

Part of my awakening is due to Marilyn Mackey’s letter on April 6, “Republicans selling out to business.” Here I learned that “delusional zealots of Fox News now have the option of viewing Tucker Carlson on Russian propaganda media” and “Russia assets abound in the GOP.” She also informs us that “this isn’t inflation. It’s corporate greed.” Wow, am I woke yet?

Lastly, Jeffrey Perrine’s letter April 9, “Figley worries about the rich, Democrats care for the rest of us.”

Am I woke or delusional?

Let’s hope for an honest election of a Trump-DeSantis ticket in 2024. Let’s make America great again!
