Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:

  1. The body of 31-year-old Xavier Johnson was found in a yard at the corner of Cottage and Central Wednesday morning. The Toledo Police responded to a call for an “unresponsive person.” An autopsy will be completed as his cause of death is unknown. (13abc Action News)
  2. 30-year-old Chelsie Livingston suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot at while driving in Toledo. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning just before 4 AM and the victim reported to a hospital as a walk-in patient suffering a gunshot wound. (WTOL)
  3. 43-year-old Toledoan Charles Andrew Hayes‘ body was found in a marshy area of Monroe County according to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough. Police made the discovery Monday morning near Bay Creek Road and Summit Street in Erie Township and the death is under investigation. (Click On Detroit)
  4. Local broadcasting legend Gordon Ward has died at 96 years old. Ward was known as a longstanding news anchor for 13 ABC since 1967. He had also worked as a radio announcer in Sandusky and for NBC in Cleveland. (13abc Action News)
  5. Harry E. Cummins II, owner of the International Boxing Club in North Toledo, has been honored for his work in the community: both with at-risk youth and those battling Parkinson’s disease. Working with the University of Toledo, the Knock Out Parkinson’s program uses exercise to combat the symptoms of the debilitating condition. (WTOL)

The program began in 2020 after a collaboration between Women of Toledo, the Northwest Ohio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Toledo African American Chamber of Commerce, and Jumpstart. (WNWO NBC 24)
  • University of Toledo criminal justice student Caylee Bruce solved the mysterious 1954 disappearance of her grandfather Wilford Morton. Bruce had the help of a blogger Sean McCracken of West Virginia to discover the fate of Morton, who died in a car crash in 1956. (Press Release Desk)
  • UToledo Rockets football season tickets go on sale March 1. The team will also play the Ohio State Buckeyes on the road this year. (Press Release Desk)
  • University of Toledo cholera researcher and associate professor of medical microbiology and immunology Dr. Jyl Matson discovered cholera in the Maumee River and Lake Erie. Dr. Matson originally took the samples for a high school learning program. (Press Release Desk)
  • The third graders at Ella P. Stewart Academy dressed up and presented as influential Black women for a presentation this Tuesday. The school enjoyed jazz ensemble The Good, the Bad, and The Blues featuring Ramona Collins to further celebrate Black History Month. (WNWO NBC 24)
