Canfield man critical after crash | News, Sports, Jobs

ELLSWORTH — A Canfield man remained in critical condition Sunday night at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after being transported there by helicopter following a two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.

According to the Canfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Eugene Oesch, 87, of Canfield, was driving north on South Salem Warren Road in an Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight when Kotey Paden, 29, of Cortland, ran a stop sign as he was heading east on North Palmyra Road in a 2012 Jeep Liberty.

The patrol report states Paden struck Oesch at an angle, forcing him off the east side of the road. Oesch was trapped inside his car and had to be extricated by mechanical means, the report states. Paden was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Alcohol and distracted driving are suspected to be factors in the crash, the report states. The crash remains under investigation.
