The Dallas Cowboys shocked the NFL world by trading for Trey Lance.

Lance had an outside chance at the starting role in San Francisco, which led to trade explorations.

After he joined the Cowboys, this meant the end of the road for Will Grier’s time with the organization.

He was released by the team, but Adam Schefter has recently reported he was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals‘ practice squad.

Grier put together an impressive preseason, as Schefter also mentions.

In his final preseason outing, Grier threw for over 300 yards, rushing for 45.

He was lauded for these performances, and will now get a chance to make some noise on the Bengals.

The Bengals recently released several of their backup quarterbacks, including Trevor Siemian.

Siemian was said to have a chance as the team’s starter should Joe Burrow begin the season on the sidelines.

With this in mind, Grier could be called up from the Bengals practice squad in a tight spot, perhaps getting an opportunity to start.

This is a developing story, one that could have more serious implications as the regular season gets closer.

The Bengals have routinely found themselves atop the AFC lately given the emergence of Burrow’s spectacular play.

If that is in jeopardy, the Bengals could turn to Grier if they want to maintain their position as one of the AFC’s elites.

For now, Grier will begin the year on the Bengals’ practice squad.

Can he bring himself into good graces with the Bengals coaching staff, working his way to a greater opportunity?
