The Arizona Cardinals seem like a sinking ship as of late, with the team making some drastic changes indicating an extensive rebuilding process is underway.

The NFL offseason started with the Cardinals parting ways with head coach Kliff Kingsbury, which was an expected move, as he failed to move the needle during his time as the leader on the sideline.

Then superstar defensive end J.J. Watt decided to call it a career and retire from the NFL, but this was also not all that surprising as he has been unable to stay healthy the last few years and clearly lost a step or two on the field.

Arizona also sent general manager Steve Keim packing, as the team felt it was time to move on after his long stint with the team.

Then the Cardinals got a trade request from their best defensive player Budda Baker making it clear he wanted out, followed by the release of five-time All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins, who also wanted to play elsewhere.

It’s been a season of change for Arizona, but the Baker situation remains unresolved, as he’ll report to minicamp with new general manager Monti Ossenfort giving an update on the situation via NFL.com.

“I think we’re going to continue to keep our discussions and line of communication open, which Budda’s been great, his representation’s been great,” Ossenfort said Monday in an appearance on the Wolf and Luke show, via the team website. “We’re going to get through this week here and see where we’re at.”

Like with Hopkins, the Cardinals seem to be having trouble finding a trade partner for Baker, explaining why he’s still with the team so long after his trade request.

With Hopkins, the team chose to release him, but whether they do the same with Baker remains to be seen.
