Iowa’s top Democrats flock to Des Moines for annual steak fry


Democratic candidate for governor Deidre DeJear spoke in front of the Polk County Democrats at their annual steak fry. As the home stretch toward the midterm election approaches DeJear talked about education and funding for public schools being her key issue. After Republicans won big in Iowa in 2020 — DeJear spoke on the importance of electing other democrats across the state.”We have an excellent group of Democrats out here that came out in spite of the rain because they believe in what can happen in our state,” DeJear said.Rep. Hakeem Jefferies from New York headlined the event.The chairman of the Democratic Caucus says Rep. Cindy Axne’s campaign is one of the key races for Democrats to hold their majority in the House.”It’s incredibly important that Cindy be re-elected,” Jefferies said. “She’s a great representative, cares about Iowa, cares about our country, cares about our democracy and look forward to continuing to support her.”With only 52 days until the election — Axne says she hopes Iowans remember the Roe v. Wade decision — and that reproductive rights are on the ballot on Nov. 8. She says from now until then she needs to be out campaigning all over her district.
