Enhanced Box Score: Cardinals 3, Cubs 1 – August 17, 2020

Four straight losses for the Cubs, which is like losing 11 straight in a regular-length season. HOWEVA, it is not *actually* 11 straight losses. So that’s good? Better?

It still sucks.

Kyle Hendricks cruised today through six innings, with his only hit allowed accounting for the only run he’d allowed to that point – a Dexter Fowler solo homer – but ran into trouble in the 7th. A double, walk, single loaded the bases, and though he got one out after that, he departed in favor of Rowan Wick with one out. Unfortunately Wick gave up a two-run double immediately.

The Cubs had a golden opportunity to put up a crooked number early, with Anthony Rizzo and Javy Báez reaching base at third and second, with one out. But the Cardinals walked Willson Contreras to load the bases for Ian Happ, hitting righty, and he struck out. David Bote bounced out after that.

The golden opportunities were few and far between after that, as the bats were mighty quiet in the short game.

Full box score.
