Just two years ago, the Golden State Warriors won their fourth NBA championship in eight seasons, and their immediate future looked bright.

But they regressed last season, struggling all year until just before the playoffs, where they lost their first Western Conference postseason round since 2014.

This year, it has become clear that Golden State’s dynasty is running on fumes, and they will face some big decisions this summer.

Nick Wright said on FS1’s “First Things First” that this season will be the last time they will have Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green on their roster.

While Curry and Green will be under contract for at least a couple more seasons, Thompson will become a free agent this summer, and he likely won’t be inexpensive to keep around.

There is a sentiment that the Warriors should do him right, but at age 34, he simply isn’t the player he used to be several years ago.

He tore his ACL during the 2019 NBA Finals and then tore his Achilles late in 2020, and those two injuries have compromised some of his legendary shooting ability, not to mention his defense.

While he’s shooting a strong 38.4 percent from 3-point range this season, that mark is well below his career average, and overall, he’s at an anemic 43.0 percent from the field.

The Warriors are in salary cap trouble and need a mild infusion of talent in order to make the most of what remains of Curry’s prime, and that could require letting Thompson go this summer.
