The New York Jets knew that they needed to bolster the offense to compete in the AFC next season.

With Aaron Rodgers presumably ready to go for the start of next season, the Jets invested heavily into their offensive line.

New York traded for tight tackle Morgan Moses, signed guard John Simpson, and left tackle Tyron Smith to revamp the O-line and give Rodgers a better chance of staying upright.

However, backup quarterback was also a need especially after the team saw what Zach Wilson did in his handful of starts.

The Jets did well to fix the problem as they signed Tyrod Taylor to back-up Rodgers.

Taylor signed a two-year deal with New York and details of his contract show he did well in terms of guaranteed money, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Base value on Tyrod Taylor’s contract: 2 years/$12M. Includes $8.5M gtd and a $2.8M cap charge in 2024. (The cap is so low because of three void years). The guarantee is sizable. Of all the backup QBs that were free agents, only Gardner Minshew ($15M) and Sam Darnold ($8.75M) received larger guarantees than Taylor — and they could be bridge starters,” Cimini tweeted.

Offering Taylor so much guaranteed money is a sign that New York is serious about staying competitive should anything happen to Rodgers again.

While Taylor is far past his prime, he’s more than serviceable should he have to step in and play and is a far better backup than Wilson.

Hopefully Rodgers is able to play every game, though, as the Jets’ playoff hopes hinge on it.
