Ever since becoming the San Francisco 49ers’ starting quarterback in Week 13 last season, Brock Purdy has played brilliant football on a pretty consistent basis.

During the regular season, he put up 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdown passes while completing 69.4 percent of his pass attempts and leading the NFL in both passer rating and QBR.

But through it all, many fans and people in the national media have dismissed his success as merely a byproduct of having one of the most talented offensive squads around him and being coached by a brilliant offensive mind in Kyle Shanahan.

Critics said Purdy couldn’t lead the 49ers to victory after trailing in the second half, especially come playoff time, but that is exactly what he has done in both of their playoff games so far, as a tweet from NFL on CBS pointed out.

Against Green Bay in the divisional round, Purdy didn’t play well in the first three quarters, but he was on point in the fourth quarter, and he went six of seven on San Francisco’s final drive, which ended with the go-ahead touchdown from star running back Christian McCaffrey.

On Sunday, he did it again, this time in more trying circumstances during the NFC Championship Game versus the Detroit Lions.

The Niners trailed 24-7 at halftime and looked to be on their way to a crushing defeat, but Purdy maintained his composure and played outstanding football afterward by just about every metric.

In the Super Bowl, he and his team will be going up against two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes and perhaps a budding dynasty in the Kansas City Chiefs.

Another win there by Purdy and the Niners could silence Purdy’s haters for good.
