The NBA Has Fined Joel Embiid For ‘Obscene Gesture’
On Sunday night, the Philadelphia 76ers were able to get their second win of the season, making easy work of the visiting Portland Trail Blazers at the Wells Fargo Center.
Even though the James Harden situation had yet to be resolved at the time, as he is now a member of the Los Angeles Clippers after a late-night trade, reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid had an incredible performance.
In only 29 minutes on the floor against the Blazers, Embiid racked up 35 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, six blocks, and two steals in one of his best all-around performances.
During this stellar performance, the perennial All-Star let his emotions get the best of him when celebrating, as he’s now been assessed with a $35,000 fine for doing multiple crotch chops, according to Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report.

Shams Charania of The Athletic confirmed the amount of the fine given to Embiid for his actions against the Blazers.

That has to be the most expensive crotch-chop celebration of all time, which might have the 76ers superstar thinking twice about doing it again, as the league clearly wasn’t happy about it.
Although Embiid’s pockets are a little lighter after the fine assessed on Tuesday by the league, Philadelphia is riding high at the moment, with the team getting off to a 2-1 start to the season and finally trading Harden to the Clippers.
With the Harden saga now officially in the rearview mirror for the 76ers, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of impact it will have on the team and whether the players shipped to Philadelphia turn out to be a good fit.
