The Los Angeles Lakers fared well last season when they flipped Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley to get non-star, hard-working players.

Their talent pool was far from impressive, and there were no clear-cut stars outside of Anthony Davis and LeBron James, but they still managed to make things work.

Their roster meshed together perfectly, so there was reason to believe they’d be as good — if not better — this season.

GM Rob Pelinka doubled down on that strategy by getting some more borderline rotation players to fill in some gaps in the roster, but that hasn’t paid off thus far.

One of the newcomers who has struggled the most is former Miami Heat guard Gabe Vincent, who has totaled 15 points across three games.

Vincent has scored 2 points on 1 of 3 from the field, 7 points on 3 of 10, and 6 points on 3 of 8 in his first three games as a Laker (via NBACentral), and the fans were ruthless to him after his latest outing.

Notably, it’s not the first time that we have seen a valuable rotation player from the Heat fall off a cliff as soon as he leaves South Beach, and it’s not the first time the Lakers have fallen for this — remember Kris Dunn.

It’s still early in the season, and the Lakers should be better than this — and so should Vincent.

If that’s not the case, then Lakers fans shouldn’t be that concerned either, as all teams involving James are always quite active when the trade deadline zooms in, so he might not even finish the season with them.
