Most fans are currently focused on the NBA preseason finally starting.

But Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid took away the attention of fans from it with a surprising announcement.

No, Embiid is not retiring.

Instead, the 2023 NBA MVP committed to playing for Team USA for the 2024 Paris Olympics as revealed via the Philadelphia 76ers’ official Twitter handle, and NBA fans had various reactions to the news.

Embiid is Cameroonian by birth, but now the 6x NBA All-Star will play for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Team USA is firing on all cylinders after missing out on winning even a single medal during the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Considering they are the most successful national team, they were expected to bring the big guns such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.

But nobody expected Embiid to commit for Team USA for the upcoming Olympics.

However, prior to the Olympics, Embiid has a duty for the 76ers.

The 76ers were once again eliminated in the Eastern Conference semifinals despite having a dynamic duo of Embiid and James Harden.

Embiid needs to lead the 76ers to a deeper playoff run, otherwise, it’ll leave a huge stain on his NBA legacy.

Sure, Embiid has won individual accolades, but when it comes to winning an NBA championship, the 29-year-old hasn’t even come close to it.

Will this finally be Embiid’s year to not only win the NBA title but also get a gold medal while donning the jersey of Team USA?
