In the aftermath of the Milwaukee Bucks acquiring superstar guard Damian Lillard in the three-team trade with the Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns, the Boston Celtics saw an opportunity to improve their roster by bringing in one of the best two-way players in the league.

Defensive-minded guard Jrue Holiday was left in limbo in Portland due to the blockbuster three-team trade, but the Blazers intended to flip him and do it quickly with the start of the season approaching.

Fortunately for Boston, Holiday was the perfect fit for their backcourt, and the Celtics had the assets to bring him in, as they traded Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams III, and draft picks to Portland.

With the Celtics acquiring veteran scorer Kristaps Porzingis earlier in the NBA offseason, the Celtics had upgraded their roster considerably, with many believing the addition of Holiday makes their team the best in the league on paper.

Former Celtics player Brian Scalabrine agrees that the Celtics have the best roster in the league right now, per Celtics on NBC Sports Boston via NBACentral.

With no games played yet, the Celtics have a solid case for being the best roster in the league, as they’re talented on both ends of the floor with veterans who are ready to win and win now.

However, it’ll be a while before the best roster in the league can be dubbed, with about 25 games or so needing to be played before a true assessment can be made, but it will be no surprise if Boston is ultimately the team that gets that distinction.
