The Los Angeles Lakers will head into the 2023-24 NBA season with high expectations, as general manager Rob Pelinka and the team’s front office were able to have one of the best offseason in the league.

Superstars Anthony Davis and LeBron James will have arguably the best talent around them since they joined the Lakers, which should bode well for them if they can both stay healthy.

Over the past few years, Davis and James have been banged up more often than not, with many believing that has been the main reason this duo hasn’t won multiple championships playing alongside one another in Los Angeles.

Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett believes that this year, Davis needs to be in the MVP conversation in order for this team to live up to those high expectations via Showtime Basketball.

Before Davis got hurt last season, the veteran forward/center was in the MVP conversation, as he was putting up monster numbers on a nightly basis for the Lakers.

Unfortunately, Davis hasn’t been able to stay healthy consistently enough to be the MVP conversation for an entire season, and this year, with the rule changes for regular-season awards, he’ll have to play at 65 games in order to do so.

The most games Davis has played in a season for the Lakers is 62, which was his first year with the team, which ironically was the season Los Angeles won it all in the bubble.

In the next two seasons, Davis played a combined 76 games for the Lakers and is coming off a season in which he only played 56 games.

Only time will tell if Davis’ body will hold up over the course of the season and if he can play at an MVP level during that time.
