In his seven seasons in the NFL, all of them with the Dallas Cowboys, Dak Prescott has been a good quarterback who has made two Pro Bowls.

However, he has routinely come up short in the playoffs, and it has become a bigger and bigger concern over time.

The Cowboys’ recent acquisition of incoming third-year quarterback Trey Lance has led to some speculation that perhaps Prescott’s days in Dallas could be numbered.

But owner Jerry Jones said he expects Prescott to be a Cowboy for “a long time,” via Todd Archer.

Prescott has this season and next remaining on his current contract, and some think that for him to earn a new contract beyond that, he will have to elevate his level of play.

Last season, he threw for 2,860 yards and 23 touchdowns, but he led the NFL with 15 interceptions even though he played in just 12 games due to a right thumb injury.

In the Divisional round of the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers, he threw two interceptions and just one touchdown pass while getting outplayed by Brock Purdy, the last player chosen in the 2022 draft.

With wide receiver Brandin Cooks and star cornerback Stephon Gilmore now on board, Prescott and the Cowboys don’t seem to have any excuses remaining.

This is a very proud franchise that has won five Super Bowls, but it hasn’t won one since the 1995 season, and it hasn’t gotten as far as the NFC Championship Game since then.

The team’s fanbase may always project a sense of swagger, but it has likely grown restless over the lack of success the franchise has had for many years.
