The New York Mets aren’t going anywhere this year, but that doesn’t mean their players aren’t giving everything they have out there.

They still feel pride for the uniform they are wearing, and they still want to post the best possible numbers because in MLB, stats guarantee and dictate how much they are going to be paid.

Speaking of stats, Pete Alonso keeps racking up numbers and, specifically, home runs.

With two round-trippers against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, the “Polar Bear” reached 41 in 2023.

He opened Sunday with 39.

In the process, he became the only Met in franchise history with multiple 40-homer seasons.

He has three.

Do you how many other 40-homer campaigns have happened in the history of the franchise?

Just three.

“40-HOMER SEASONS. Pete Alonso: 3. Every other player in the Mets’ 62-year history combined: 3,” Mets insider Tim Britton tweeted.

Alonso reached the milestone in 2019 (his debut year), 2022, and 2023.

He came up short by three dingers in 2021, as he hit 37.

The only other Mets with 40-homer seasons in history are Todd Hundley (1996), Mike Piazza (1999), and Carlos Beltran (2006).

In addition to that, Alonso is the only one with a 50-homer season; in 2019 (53).

When it comes to power, there are few hitters in MLB as consistent as Alonso.

He is a lock to give you at least 35 per season if he plays around 140 games or more.

Not every slugger in the game right now can say the same.

Alonso is scheduled to hit the free-agent market at the end of the 2024 season, and while the team is torn on whether to bring him back for the long term or not, fans and the player himself would love him to stay.
