The Toronto Raptors enter the 2023-24 season as one of the most intriguing teams to watch as they seem stuck between rebuilding around Scottie Barnes and competing for a title.

The Raptors have several win-now pieces on the roster like Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, and Jakob Poeltl, but it’s clear at this point that Barnes is the future of the franchise.

Under Masai Ujiri, Toronto has remained competitive in the Eastern Conference though their prospects of truly competing took a hit when they lost Fred VanVleet in free agency to the Houston Rockets.

The Raptors did manage to pivot quickly when they came to terms with Dennis Schroder who had a bounce-back year in his second stint with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Schroder’s a fiery competitor who isn’t afraid to get after it on the floor, so he makes for a decent replacement for VanVleet.

So far, Schroder has been playing a key role for the German national team during the 2023 FIBA World Cup but was recently seen getting into it with his head coach via LakeShowYo.

“Never touch me like that,” Schroder said.”

With Germany down five points in the first quarter, Schroder takes exception to his coach placing his hand on him.

The two continue to argue, with the head coach urging them to sit because they’re in the middle of a timeout.

Players’ tempers will flare during games and while it might seem concerning to see someone like Schroder lash out like that on the bench, it generally subsides and they go back to playing.
